Hiers-Baxley on 110th St in Ocala, FL. left a lot of bad feelings with us by the time we were done. I had flown in from out of state along with my brother and sisters for the Fourth of July weekend only to have our father suffer a stroke and heart-attack just before we arrived. Within five days he was gone.
We met with our funeral director and the first things we noticed were the huge ring and Rolex watch he was sporting. Kind of bad taste was my initial thoughts but, to each his own. The computers at the funeral home were down due to bad weather so he came to our home later that afternoon to go over the details and obituary. The wording was put together and several copies of a picture were provided. Then later that afternoon we viewed and approved the obituary along with the photo at their website online.
The following day we saw the obituary in the paper without the picture. Our calls to Hiers-Baxley were handled by a woman with the coldest personality I have ever encountered who told us she would look into running the obituary again with the photo. Later that afternoon she called and I was on the phone with her. She made it quite clear that she had done nothing wrong and had done as she was told. She absolutely refused to admit that a mistake had been made and told me we would be paying full price for the re-running of the column. When I asked to speak with our director she refused; telling me he was off until after the weekend. I then demanded someone call me that day. Within minutes there was another funeral director calling me and he couldn't apologize enough but the damage was done. To be talked to in that manner less than 48 hours after watching my father slip away was un-doable.
I would not recommend this funeral home to anyone. Others within this company may be fine but I hope when my Mother passes we can just leave these people out of it even though it has been pre-paid. I would pay someone for a second fee rather than go back.
Everything about our experience with this company was a nightmare. Don't trust your loved ones to this funeral service company!
