We arrived at the Cookie jar at 6:00 PM on a Tuesday evening. We had searched for the cafe for over an hour after arriving in Dunlap. We called twice before finally finding the restaurant. (NOTE: Don't use your GPS if you hope to go there.)
When we asked the manager why there was no signage to help folks locate the restaurant she said because people would steal them? We ordered the special: chicken & dumplins, but they were sold out (at 6:00 PM)
The manager offered to comp. our meal, but we paid instead.
My wife then ordered the baked chicken, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and a roll; which she said was about a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1-10. I then ordered the fried catfish, baked sweet potato, cole slaw, and a hush puppy. The catfish was just out of the freezer and tasteless. The cole slaw was fresh and crisp. The sweet potato was totally bland. The hush puppy was delicious. Overall we rate the cafe a 5 on a 10 scale.
We had heard many good recommendations about the cafe, but we were sorely disappointed. Larry Dobbs, Signal Mountain, TN
