Dakota's Roadhouse is the only steakhouse in Jackson. I have ate there more than 10 times. The first few times - the food was excellent as I am a steak eater - it was good! The last 3 times I have ate there the steak was not good. The steaks are now very fatty - the last three times I have been there - ordered Ribeye - I had to send the steak back - each time because it contained about 45-50% fat. I think they have changed beef suppliers or something - maybe the person who cuts/trims the steak. Each time - the manager brought me out a new steak that was perfect. It is as if they send out the junk steaks - and if the customer does not complain - then great. If they complain - miracuously the "good" steak appears at your table in the hands of the on duty manager. They have always appologized - and stated the steak I sent back was definately unacceptable. However, customers should not have to go through this ordeal (3 different visits in a row over a period of 2 months). You can't help but wonder how many "unacceptable steaks" are sent out of the kitchen to customers who never complain. The beer is great, the atmosphere the best in Jackson - just be cautious about the food quality. Expect to spend $20 per plate plus drinks.
Dakota's is a fine steak house. Yes, it is one of the few choices to choose from in the small town of Jackson. However, it is one of a couple places that serve alcoholic beverages and has the greatest variety of drinks in the county. Their margarita's are something to brag about! Something to consider however, in my travels, I find the people of southern Ohio to be of a different breed. They tend to be rude in general and I would like to emphasize it's the area not the restaurant. The restaurant has seen a change in management in the past couple of months and there is much anticipation of making better the already good atmosphere. The menu is a typical roadhouse style down to the peanuts and rolls. The food is good and the price is quite fair. Be aware, people drive from all over southern Ohio to eat the prime rib making the restaurant quite popular on the weekends. A wait is always typical and it can be up to an hour long. The wait alone speaks for its self, if people are willing to wait an hour the place can't be that bad.
If Melina is your waitress, ask for another. She doesnt pay fair attention to customers, and doesnt bring rolls after you ask 5 times. She also added herself a nice little $14 dollar tip to my bill since i didnt give her one. I tried to call but guess what the Steak house is closed on monday. What kind of freakin Steak House is closed on monday?
