Interesting joint........: There are some good BBQ places around the beautiful and spacious northwest, but having worked in the U-District for a while, there were none around me.
I came across this place last month (even though apparently it has been open for a few months) and popped in for lunch. Very inviting atmosphere, great wooden floor that is apparently original to the building and over 100 years old.
I tried the ribs, as good a test as any for a BBQ place. They were the best I've had outside of Rendezvous in Memphis. It was about a 1/2 slab for $9 and the rib meat fell off the bone. Apparently is it a KC-style sauce and I liked it. Too bad it was lunch, I would have tried the $3 pitcher of beer (my employer's credo: If you can't start drinking by 10am, then don't start at all).
Very nice waitress and personable service. I swear I heard a Blink-182 song followed by a Hank Williams oldie (I'd say eclectic would suffice as a description).
Anyway, apparently it is named after the owner's father (according to my waitress) for those of you with the imagination of a hormone-seething junior fellow.
I'm going back next after work to sample the cheap beer and a sandwich.
Best BBQ in Seattle!: I ate at the this new restaurant on the Ave- tried the baby back ribs- delicious- it came with 2 sides and I had the potato salad and cole slaw- both were great- I also sampled my friends orders too- hand cut fries- tasty! potato cakes- fantastic- grilled cornbread with honey and butter- yummy! baked beans- really good- the pulled pork sandwich was the best I've ever had- it was served on a grilled texas toast bread and wasn't sloppy or soggy like most bbq places- for dessert I had the sweet potato pie with ice cream- everything was sooo good- I'll definitely go back for more- I also liked the way the front of the place had opening garage doors so you can sit and watch the people go by.
