When you are holding the only copy of 7 years of family photos in your hands in the form of a dead hard drive, you have already kicked yourself around the block several times for not creating a reliable back up. What you don't need is someone to lecture you or give you the "what an idiot!" look while rattling off astronomical prices for recovering your family treasure and possibly saving your marriage.
