Character's Pub is everything a restaurant should be...clean, inviting, friendly atmosphere. Great drinks and food at reasonable prices. The salads are among the best I've ever had anywhere, as are the onion rings! Even when they are busy, which is most of the time, service is superb and we always leave satisfied. You will too! If you live in or are visiting the Lancaster area, I would highly recommend stopping by Character's for lunch or dinner. You won't be disppointed!
Just ate at Character's for the first time. Awesome food and a lot of it. We had the Tuna Carpaccio (spelling/?) which was wonderful especially if you like hot and spicy, the oyster stew was the best I've had and the stuffed mushrooms were out of this world. The atmosphere was very nice and our server was very attentive and personable. I will definitely make this a regular place.
Get the crab cakes!: Character's Pub gets its name from the two gentlemen who own the restaurant, Gary and George. You can usually find Gary behind the bar and George greeting throughout the restaurant.
I have been eating at Character's for the past 3 years and love it! I love the options for sides (fries, onion rings, house or caesar salad). I always go for the house salad (spinach, arugala, romaine, grape tomatoes, mushrooms, red onions, bell peppers) with parmesan peppercorn dressing.
Even more importantly, the crab cakes are the best I have ever eaten. Gary is the only one who makes them and he uses no filler. They are breaded with Japanese bread crumbs and are worth the price!
Daily fare consists of burgers, grilled sandwiches (Rueben, Rachel, Monte Cristo, etc.). They do offer a couple vegetarian selections and they use organic beef. They also offer daily specials and freshly made soup (not from a can! and you can taste the difference).
They have a wide selection of beers and can make your favorite mixed drink (and they don't charge an arm and a leg for it).
Average cost of a non-alcoholic lunch or dinner from the standard menu will be $10/person. If you order from the specials you can expect to spend about $20/person (but it is worth it, especially on crab cake days).
Top off your meal with one of the freshly made desserts. Standards include bread pudding with a Bailey's Irish Cream sauce and an individual apple pie. They also always have a creme brulee that changes flavor based on the season (the pumpkin is phenomenal) and occasionally offer their version of a whoopee pie (which in Autumn includes homemade cinnamon ice cream between two pumpkin cakes).
I have eaten at Character's about twice a month for the past three years and have yet to eat anything for which I did not care.

Would recommend rib lovers to order the spare ribs. They are as good or better than any I have eaten. Meat falls off the bone.
