Bonefish is a chain seafood restaurant that tries very hard to project an image of serving great seafood. From the moment we were seated our waiter began telling us how wonderful the food was and how the seafood was the freshest around. I really wanted to believe him because Lexington needs a really good seafood restaurant, but I was skeptical. Most of their fish comes with your choice of sauces each of which sound delicious and sounded like they might go a long way toward disguising the flavor of bad fish, but I decided to take a change and order my fish with the garlic butter sauce assuming (incorrectly) that this fish would be lightly coated with a simply sauce and the flavor of the first truly fresh fish I'd had in a long time would shine through. Was I ever wrong. The fish was served drowning in the thick sickening sauce that I had to scrape off with a fork. What was underneath was not bad for landlocked Kentucky, but it was well short if what I had been promised. Our waiter was very attentive, but tried way to hard to tell us we were eating the best seafood we'd ever had to the point of being annoying and borderline obnoxious. Still Bonefish is probably the second best seafood restaurant in Lexington and much better than any other seafood chain I've eaten at in this town, but unfortunately that is not saying much.
Coastal freshness in the center of the continent: I have lived on both coasts and I love fish. Far and away the best fish I've had in this landlocked region. They fly it in fresh not frozen, it makes all the difference. Combine that with bold recipes, impeccable service and relaxing, dignified ambiance and you have a favorite. And you might not guess it's a chain.
Special Seafood: you must start with the Bang-Bang shrimp and then endulge with one of their specials - the presentation, flavor, and price are all perfect!! I've never been disappointed.
