I dined at Food 101 for the first time two weeks ago. We started out with the tuna appetizer. It was delicious! For dinner I had the filet which was outstanding! It was cooked to perfection. It was a large, juicy, very tasty piece! My friend had the scallops which were excellent! We both received generous portions. It was well worth the $$$$.
Food as Art: I've now been to Food 101 Bar & Bistro several times. Unbelievable well-prepared food, imaginative flavor combinations, and you will not find a better risotto anywhere. The flavor profiles are not overdone. The natural taste of the food pops right through the light touch of season, giving an impression of fresh and natural preparation. Be prepared to spend a few bucks, though , as the restaurant has a per-plate average of around $25. All salads are ala-cart and run $7-9. I believe it's well-worth the money, but not an ideal place to take the kids, the prices are just too prohibitive for a family dinner. I'm also of the belief that this is simply not the kind of restaurant that one brings the kids too because children tend to put a damper on the romantic dining atmosphere that couples are looking for in a restaurant like this (Yes - I have children, I don't hate kids, I just wouldn't bring them here.) Highly recommended, but make a reservation, especially during mid-to-late May, when Mount Holyoke College (located across the street) has it's graduation.
