The new owners of the establishment are quite polite, caring and they listen to criticism well. The atmosphere is mostly pleasent during the day and on most weeknights. While I understand that when the bar fills with younger folks the profits rise significantly, I cannot take the style of music nor the volume at which it is played. The food is excellent, although upon meeting the head cook and attempting to compliment him on a wonderful meal, I found him to be quite rude and unbecoming. As if he had much more to worry about that the satisfaction of the very people he prepares food for. I have been there quite a few times since then and I very much enjoy their selection of beers, although they are a tad overpriced for such a non urban area. I have attened both this years and last years celebration of "Finnegans Wake", and while I found it to be a rousing good time, I must say I had more fun at last years, mainly due to the awful DJ who insisted on playing country music and popular rap songs on St Patricks day itself, rather than traditional Irish music. I understand that "Finnegans Wake" is most likely the big money maker of the year for the establishment, and I can see why. The prices are absolutly outlandish!. I enjoy the occasional Irish car bomb, but I believe the large sign proclaiming them to be $10.00 is a literal slap in the face to the working class folks who would frequent such and event/pub. All in all the place is worth a stop at for the excellent food, just dont try to compliment the chef. It is worth a stay until the younger crowd shows up at night and hurls racial slurs. The Wake celebration is definatly one to stop by for, but make sure you leave before the pub itself and the ten is bursting at the seams, so as not to mess your clothes with some innebriated young ladies spilled miller light or mishandled ciggerette.
Once a place I thoroughly enjoyed visiting, Bally is now a place I mostly dread to go to, and regularly try to avoid. The owners are pleasant men and are one of the reasons I would take a seat at there beautiful wooden bar. But during the week when a certain ill humored bartender is serving I would gladly take a trip to hell and back before even stepping a foot into the establishment. Iâve traveled to many bars not only in the US but all over the world and I have never ever, even in France, been treated with such disrespect and derisive attitude. Meeting the bartender for the first time she was smug and coy, and her mannerism really just tempted me get up and leave, I could easily have taken my business elsewhere but decided to give her another change figuring everyone has bad days. Then I witnessed to my horror that she denied drinks to a perfectly sober customer for not viable reason and then proceeded to insult the customerâs friend after she calmly came to the denied customerâs defense. The bartender who was obviously over the age of 40 was acting like an immature 20 year old, making punts at the customerâs weight and eventually kicking them out for no reason. Bally seemed to be a nice place to relax and have a beer after work of a long day, but with the she beast dwelling there many nights of the week I would gladly advise anyone seeking an enjoyable time to take the first bus to the local prison because the inmates there would have a better demeanor than the nightly fire breathing dragon know as a bartender at Bally.
Amazing! I live right up the street. We walk there all the time. The food is excellent - cheap and you get tons of it. It's a favorite of my family and all of our friends. It's really good. It's definitely my favorite restaurant!
