Does the Bunker family still operate this cemetery? Please advise.
I was shocked to drive by the cemetery tonight to see the entrances chained shut, even more so that the Jewish graves in the SE corner had been desecrated.
Will telephone the cemetery and see if a police report has been filed. And take photographs as well. I have often enjoyed sitting amongst my people and eating lunch silently, with the birds in the trees and the spirits as my company.
Why in this day and age would people do such a thing? All I wanted to do was get in there and hoist up all the knocked-over tombstones, but could not - a strange sensation of helplessness.

I live very near the cemetery and pass by it on Teneya several times a day. I also saw the knocked over tombstones and was appalled, shocked and saddened. What joy could have come from that? What satisfaction could have come from that? I have family buried closer to the Lone Mt gate and frequently go there to enjoy the peace and quiet and serenity. I remember when Bunker's didn't have fences around it, but have always been grateful that they leave the gates open since putting the fences up. I can only hope and pray that whomever did such a horrible act will realize what they have done before they ruin it for the rest of us.
To my knowledge, this was among the first cemeteries in LV. I'm saddened to hear that vandalism has been reported there - a sure sign of lack of maintainance. Perhaps we should pull together and report these events? There is a review board (providers of licensing) who is willing to investigate on behalf of the families (customers). Let me know what I can do.
I contacted the local media (who wanted photos) as well as the cemetery office. The vandals were bored teenagers rather than hard-core anti-semites - and other teenagers followed them to their homes and called the police on them! The folks at the cemetery assured me any damaged stones would be repaired or replaced. The event was soon a memory.
