I have only trained at Ronin for two weeks as a beginner, and I must say the environment and attitude of the people has made me feel more than welcome. I was advised by few to join a "popular academy", but my instinct told me to try something new, and I am confident in the instructor and training so far.
The amount of detail in two sessions has been sufficient. I would definetely refer Ronin to anyone interested in starting the art. Each session feels like a maximum effort workout, I must say the combination of knowledge, physical output, and motivation is quite intense. Irrespective of the insructors backround, the techniques that are taught vouch for authenticity.
I have trained at several gyms in the area and nothing compares to Ronin. The gym is very clean and the people are freindly. You will not find an instructor more dedicated to his students than Nathan. It is like taking private lessons except you actually have other people to roll with.
Nathan is a great standup instructor as well. This is a great place to train if you are preparing for MMA.
I started out as a beginner and learned advanced quickly thanks not only to Nathan's outstanding teaching but also to the people that train there. There are people training for gi and no-gi competition, people doing it just to stay in shape and people training mma. I highly recommend Ronin for anyone who wants to wants to really learn and perfect their techniques in jiu jitsu.
There are in-house competitions twice a year. There is a team training day on Fridays for those who want to compete. Saturdays are open mat day, where guys come in and grapple to see if what they learned during the week really works!
There are kids programs, I have my 5 and 7 year old buys in one now.
