Just like many of TPC throughout the U.S., TPC San Francisco is great course and challenging to play. Three things going against most players on this course are the wind, the course layout, and the green. This is private course so general public will need to pay hefty fee $185, or become a guest of a member and price will drop down to $130. Compare it with TPC Scottsdale, I think it is a better course which costs a lot more during cooler season. Because of Nationwide tour stop, from the tip plays over 7100 yards and with the wind blowing most of the time due to the course situated on the hill, it plays much longer. I played from silver tee which is about 6500 yards and it plays like around 6800 yards. Many tee shots require finding a fairway top priority since the rough and hazards are unforgiving. If you want to challenge the black tee, I would recommend teeing off before 9 AM or face some serious wind on this course which will guarantee to add some numbers. Green is not extremely fast but it has undulation that is difficult to read unless you are a regular here. First two holes, Iâve three putted and made bogie because of putting so make sure to practice putt. Good iron play will be rewarded here since proper launch height and carry is essential on this course. Many holes require a decent carry from the fairway so donât expect to hit it short of green and expect ball to roll. Each hole is unique and fun to play. Iâve am going back to play once more so I hope I play better than first time I tried it. I shot 86 on my first attempt and I have 9.2 USGA handicap so probably shot three more than what my handicap would suggest. I will try to shoot 82 or less this time around. They currently have a special membership without initiation fees so it is not a bad deal if you can play here often. I think this will last for another year or two until the current U.S. economy improves.
Great golf course. Too hard for general public. Go play if you have a connection and/or the money. Be aware you will struggle, without knowing the layout, winds and slopes. Beautiful views and each hole unique. Greens might be to severe for even low handicappers. You have to be in the right place of forget it. Plays longer then the 6500 for Silver tee's. That's the effect of the wind. I hit the driver 280+ and on long par 4 nutted both drive and 3wood and just short. I did reach two of the par 5's, but couldn't putt to the pin on one. Pin tucked and no way to get it close. I eagled 16 with chip in from behind. It played short with tailwind. I got a comp, so not sure what it cost's. Great range, service excellent. I expect you can get real harsh conditions with wind and fog. I wouldn't want to play on that day!
