There is no reason for you to go there. None!
San Francisco is full of great restaurants and cool bars. HI Dive is neither. They offer an inattentive staff (with attitude) & mediocre food. It is hard to talk over the load music. Sure being right near the water and nearly under the Bay Bridge is cool but is that the only reason that you are going there? Well, then walk along the Embarcadero and go some place else for food or drinks. Why even risk a poor experience with so many great places in SF?
When I asked our server if they offered any local beers she told me they had Anchor Steam, which is "the only San Francisco brewery." What? And you work in the food industry? 21st Amendment, Speakeasy, Gordon Biersch? Ever heard of them?
How does this place stay in business?
The Hi Dive is one of my favorite hangouts in San Francisco. It's located right on the water halfway between the ferry terminal and AT&T Park. It's the perfect stop before a ballgame.
The bartenders and servers are the BEST in town. They make everyone feel welcome. At times i've walked in after a downer day and came out with a smile.
They also serve reasonably price food that is too good for a bar with 'dive' in its title. Menu's change daily and they offer a great deal of variety. This is a place I will always stop at whenever I am in the neighborhood.
Only downside is that it can get really busy-like any other great bar in town but don't let that discourage you. The reason its busy is because its a great place. 5 stars!!!
