It's a restaurant, bar, music venue, & community pool! Brad & Leanne own this place now & have renamed it the Rio Nido Road House. Lots of good changes are happening. They've started a year-round restaurant with tasty & very reasonably-priced snacks & entrees. Dinner & lunch are served daily, plus brunch on weekends. The dining area is outdoors, but a canopy shelters it from the rain & the heat lamps keep it nice & comfy. They also host weekend evening music events in the spring, summer & fall (when it isn't cold & raining). The place also looks really good -- they've been painting, decorating & sprucing things up.
Summers are fabulous: Pool + Cafe + Music + Bar = Summer fun for kids & parents!: In the summer you can laze around by the pool, picnic on the nearby lawn, grab a yummy, inexpensive & even somewhat nutritious lunch from the snack bar (they make excellent burgers & sandwiches with locally-grown fresh vegetables for the trimmings, crispy french-fries & a nice selection of good-humor -truck-type ice cream treats), & indulge yourself in an ice-cold beer or fruity blender drink from the bar. The life guards do a good job of maintaining a safe environment while making sure everyone has fun.
The kids enjoy playing in the picnic area almost as much as they love the pool, because they can run around on the grass, play in the picturesque little gazebo (which the owners have thoughtfully stocked with an assortment of toys), blow bubbles (the life guards set up a picnic table with buckets of "bubble juice" & an assortment of bubble wands). And the daddies enjoy watching sports on the high-definition, big screen TV in the bar.
Pool admission can be a bit pricey ($6 per person over age 2). But their season & monthly passes offer an excellent value for residents & frequent visitors. There's also a discount for folks arriving late afternoon (4pm) for a quick dip in the pool. The pool is open from 11:30am-5:30pm & you can stay there all day. The Rio Nido Roadhouse is also becoming a popular spot for kids' birthday parties & the costs are very reasonable ($4 per head last summer).
It had been years since we stumbled on the Rio Nido Roadhouse and what a difference! WOW. The patio is awesome, and this might be the best kept live music secret. We had so much fun, it was a huge crowd, lots of dancing. The bartenders were awesome. The food was delicious (The pizza was awesome and it was the best rueben I have ever had, thanks chef michael!)I can't wait to see what summer brings. We will be back!!! Thanks!
Fond memories...: As a local I have found the Rio Nido Cafe to be friendly and inviting. True - it has a 'double life.' They don't neglect their 'locals' at the expense of running a successful business. Many River establishments would do well to follow their example. The lunches served at the bar were always very good - especially the hamburgers and fries.
