The pearl room is anything but a pearl!! This place is a total rip off!!!!
The building is in poor shape, the drinks are way over priced ($5.00 for a small cup of beer), there is not one single chair to sit in so if you want to sit down just flop on the floor!! The local bands have to sell 20 tickets at $30.00 each just so they can play there but, the kicker is that after they sell the $600.00 worth tickets they are not even given a simple thing like water the night of the show, they have to buy water at $4.00 a bottle on top of not getting paid for part of the ticket sales that they made. I have been to many Clubs and Pubs in the area but this is the first time I have ever seen where you have to pay $5.00 to go outside and smoke. You would figure that with all of the money these jerks are charging and rooking from the bands that it would be a nice place to see show but, that is not the case.
The staff was as rude as they come, we went to the show on our Motorcycles so when my girlfriend's son walked in the door they told him that he would have to leave his helmet at the door, when he got ready to leave they did not want to give it back to him so we could leave, when the guy finally got it for him he threw it at him. This was the first and last time that I will ever go to this place.
I went here for NYE 2008. Of course getting in was slow (and it was blizzarding), but I expected that. Get drinks at the open bar was hard, but it was New Years so I expected that. The dance floor was fun and the buffets were good. Until after midnight when everything fell apart. They were severely understaffed, and when food and champagne ran out partiers decided to just head back to the kitchen to make it themselves instead of waiting for staff to get around to it. People turned on ovens, opened whatever food they could find, started auctioning off utensils and plates because those were in low supply- everything. When security finally got there they started grabbing whoever was closest, instead of the people who had actually gone back into the kitchen. I'll admit it was fun as hell for a drunken new years eve, but people were being arrested who just happened to be standing near by- not fun for them. At the end of the night, people went to the coat check to claim their coats and found that no one was manning that station either. People were stealing expensive winter coats and cashmere scarves, then people who's coats were stolen were stealing other cheaper coats just to have something to wear. People were fighting and crawling around trying to get something. Management dealt with it by calling the police and trying to arrest everyone. We were staying behind, trying to talk to management about how we could be compensated for our stolen possessions, getting a name or number as to who to call the next day (because that's what they told us to do), but instead of answering any of our questions they threatened to arrest us. They even told all of their wasted patrons to get in their cars and drive home (it was blizzarding and we were drunk) instead of letting people stay to drink water or hang outside to sober up a little. It was the most poorly-managed and destructive experience I've ever had in a club. I would highly recommend against ever going here if your care about your safety, possessions, or arrest record.
Those of you who are looking for a good place to see a band play will not find it at the Pearl Room. Recently, I attempted to go to a show here. I arrived on time and ended up standing in line for almost two hours. By the time I made it to the door, two bands had completely finished their sets, and one was almost done. That left the headlining band ONLY. I inquired about getting a refund for the $30 ticket that I paid to essentially sit out in cold rainy/wintry-mix weather for two hours instead of watching the bands the ticket was meant for. I was tossed around by a couple of bouncers, and when the manager finally came around he was very rude, would not listen to anything I had to say, told me I needed to come back and speak with the owners during their 'hours of operation'. Yet, he refused to give me any contact information for the owners, or times for when these supposed 'hours of operations' were. He walked off after that. They did not have enough staff letting people in, and they did not begin letting people in a timely fashion. The staff checking tickets and IDs was also very rude to the crowd, and purposely slowed down the line's progression mutliple times just because people were inquring as to why it was taking so long to get into the concert venue.
To make matters worse, several people in the line with me were talking about how basically the same thing had happened at another show there. This place is poorly managed, and as long as they get money out of people and people keep going, they will continue to treat their customers as poorly as they can get away with.
I have gone to hundreds of concerts at multiple venues across this country, and I have never had such a wretched experience as this. Honestly, I am especially depressed that people can have such little respect for one another for nothing more than a few dollars.
