I am going to be the first to give this 4 stars in part because my expectations were high after reading these reviews. We had dinner here before an evening trip to the Mint Museum. The restaurant itself looks a like a notch up from from your mostly take-out, eat on paper plates Chinese restaurant. Every noise in the place loudly echoed off the walls, including people talking loudly on cellphones and kids yelling. The tables against the walls were also cramped and tight. The food we had was good and inexpensive, but by no means great or the best Chinese food ever, or even in Charlotte for that matter. We frequent Best China, most often the Fort Mill location very close to the state line, and their food is just as good, similarly priced, they give you more, and they have good service too. Besides that, the restaurant is a little nicer and calmer.
Would I eat at 88 China Bistro again? Yes, if I was in the area. Is it a must try location? I don't think so. I think the people who tell you that are the people who vote Brixx and Fuel number one for pizza and think Moe's is real Mexican food.
This is the best Chinese restaurant in the area. I have tried just about everything on the menu and nothing disappoints. Prices are fair and the service is great.
Close to home & GREAT!: The absolute best chinese restaurant uptown... Hands down.
