I’ve known of The Plaza Academy since the mid 90’s. They saved me and my child from great distress. They gave him a school to go to when he wasn’t happy in any other school. He was no longer becoming sick from going to or the thought of going to school. He loved school again. He’s a very bright child but needed a little extra help with dyslexia and ADHD and they worked with him when no one else would or could. He was soon on the honor roll and loved school again. At times they had him sit next to them at their desk. The teachers walked around desk to desk and helped the ones who needed a little extra help. It was really nice personal help for each child. It was still at a fraction of the cost of the previous tutors I hired in the past. I was impressed and still am at the dedication of the director, teachers, and staff as well as volunteers. Many wonderful parent volunteers and alumni and alumni parents go to the school every year to help the school that helped out their children and them at a difficult time in their life. What a wonderful love and dedication so many of the happy families show for all the hard work of all the past employees and volunteers of such a wonderful school. All parents are asked to participate in the contingency program which works if you do work it with the staff. Grades came home every Monday of the school year. I knew where he was at in his academic performance and attendance daily with the daily reports. It cut my worries down so much from where I once was. Parents are always informed at the interview to be involved with the progress and contingency of their children as well as welcome to come in and sit in the classes and enjoy the program. How wonderful and the caring staff is to all the children. All the teachers are certified and go beyond the mark for each student. The Doctor many times turned frustration around when my son was about ready to give up even if it was a peer relationship problem. He was always willing to set up a meeting and even meet with us last minute if his schedule was open. I had a lot more peace of mind when my son went to The Plaza Academy and since for his well being. We can’t say enough wonderful things about The Plaza Academy.
Parent & Alumni.
Hello- I am the parent of a child who attended Plaza Academy because the Director, Gary Seabaugh has a great sales pitch about his program- The reality is that his "program" does not exist, there is very little structure within the facility- the secretary is a volunteer instead of a paid staff member- there is no routine to the day-The students attending Plaza spend a lot of time outside the building in the parking lot smoking cigarettes throughout the day when they should be in the classroom- due to lack of supervision and structure it is the perfect enviornment for being bullied- it is NOT an appropriate program for any child with special learning needs or support- but in particular not for a child on the Autism Spectrum- whether high or low functioning- My kid got locked outside of the building on a 100 degree day because a decision was made to close the school early without telling the parents or other important people that the kids needed to be picked up early- (most kids drive at Plaza) so they got in their cars and left- but kids whose parents didn't know to pick them up early got left outside to wait for an hour for their ride- IN WESTPORT! This was one of many negligent situations to occur during the time that my child attended......there were too many to list in this brief review but suffice it to say- DO NOT send your kid to Plaza Academy unless you are just looking for a babysitting service (and they certainly do not babysit well) I removed my kid from the program so that no further damage could occur.......
