Our experience was great. Yes, it's a little pricey compared to your senor & senorita local taqueria but this is a San Francisco restaurant located in a gentrified area so it's common sense to expect to pay more. I also think that many Americans judge the tastiness of Mexican food in direct proportion to the amount of cheese piled on top of the entree.
That aside, the red salsa was very flavorful. The appetizer, a chorizo verde, was great having never eaten choriza in that form before. The Carnitas were perfect, being crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the Chile Rellenos were large and stuffed with a tasty filling. The Margaritas had a unique flavor and were excellent and service was outstanding. Even the beans and rice accompaniments were very good.
This restaurant will be our traditional stop before every Giants game.
Food was so-so. I agree that its overpriced for the amount and quality of the food. But gotta remember the rent in S.F. Spoiled in the central valley where you get the best Mexican food in California for a very reasonable price in terms of quality and quantity.
This place tries to be something its not. Its basically an undercover, suburban strip mall like "Chevys" mixed with a wee tiny bit of SF flare. I have eaten there twice now, and both times the food and service was sub par. The only thing I enjoyed were the margaritas. Maya or Mexico DF are so much better if your looking for more upscale Mexican dinning.
