I wouldn't eat here if you're in a hurry, but if you have the time, be prepared for some very excellent eats. They serve scratch made Mexican food, and everything we had there was tasty and filling. Oh, it isn't diet food. But if you're in Escalante, you're probably on vacation and calories don't count when you're on vacation. :-)
We started with an excellent guacamole (with deep fried flour tortillas). I had the tostadas and my friend had the grilled tacos, both very good. Not spicy unless you ask for it that way. I had the tres laches cake for desert, my friend had a strawberry sundae. I would eat there every day. Too bad I live 1500 miles from there.
Don't be put off by the appearance, it's a converted house with all of four tables indoors, and one outside, decorated with some very eclectic decorations. The owner Georgie (well, I assume she was Georgie) is friendly and personable. It's more like a home atmosphere, and don't be surprised if a cat or two shows up. They're not Georgies, but they have adopted her.
Anyway, there aren't a lot of food choices in Escalante, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes Mexican or just good food. We were on a 15 day, 4300 mile road trip, and it we'd rank as one of our top meals.
Five stars. If I'm ever back that way (and Route 12 in Utah is worth the trip back), I'd definitely stop in again.
