I went here for my 21st birthday with my mom. I wanted to go some place new and I typically try to stay away from chain restaurants. This place was great, aside from its location and outward appearance, it's a cute little restaurant with nice people. I can't say much about the interior except that it's a single dark room and there was an old man playing the guitar. The best part was the food, as it should be. I stuffed myself with the penne andiamo and regrettably left my box of leftovers at the table. For dessert we got the zabaglione, which was good but the taste of alcohol was a little too strong for a dessert. It's pretty pricey, but the restaurant gave me a $10 gift card as a birthday gift and incentive for coming back (which I will)
Ok, honestly I am pretty matter of fact when it comes to dining. I understand the different levels of quality and service when it comes to the restaurant business. I spent over 12 years of my life running restaurants of all types, from neighborhood to corporate types. I had heard good thing in the past about Andiamo and was willing to forgo anything rumored negatively and wanted to experience it first hand. From the moment we walked in I was doubtful. We were seated along the main wall in the middle of the restaurant and I was thinking to myself, ok, it is in a strip mall but lets get inside and see what the food is all about (my main concern). The light above us flickered up and down all evening, not even the tip of the iceberg here so I am going to let this one go.
To begin with, I ordered a Tocai Fruliano which turned out to be an '05, i had my doubts but tried it and it had a bit of fruit left and hadn't turned.(being really nice here)
So lets start witht the food, we began with the carpaccio to. The meat was watery and had obviously been frozen, and there was some balsamic vinegar on it which turned part of the meat brown and "funky" tasting (not anywhere on the description). We sent it back and the waiter agreed then offered no alternative or apology, (really???). Then apart from dropping the entrees, disappeared for the rest of the evening. Sooo.... we patiently waited for our entrees to come out and drank our wine. The first entree, stuffed trout with crab and a brown butter caper sauce was passable. The second, sauteed beef medallions with black truffles and sauteed wild mushrooms.... Sounds great eh? well I thought so as well. Hmmm....the beef was cooked rare as requested, only problem was the there was no flavor and the truffles resembled burnt garlic and had a similar taste! Honestly, how do you @#$% up fresh truffles?!? And the chef seemed to thing that salt was a foreign substance that should never touch any of his food.
The manager/owner came over and she asked how everything was. At this point I was livid, and this was my wife first experience for a "night out" since our baby was born, (we wanted and expected to spend some good money and have a wonderful evening).
That couldn't have gone more awry. The woman was astounded that everything was so bad but offered to excuse to the things I clearly stated to her. If she would have truly been surprised by my comments I would have given Andiamo the benefit of the doubt and never written anything, but her nonchalance and mocking attitude made me have to respond. I hope no-one has to experience this place as I and my wife did and go eat at something like Sienna or Vespiao if you want "real" Italian food.
Good eating.

I was introduced to this restaurant by a co-worker of mine. My fiance and I are very particular about our Italian meals, as he is Italian.
This has to be the best authentic Italian food in Austin. I have never had a bad meal there and I am quite fond of the delicious apperitif served at the end of the meal. The service is amazing and the owner is very friendly.
This has come to be our special occasion restaurant as we feel we are extremely spoiled every time we go.
I think this restaurant will need to expand in the future and accommodate a full bar to sit, relax and enjoy a few appetizers and a glass of wine at the end of the day.
