Food Much Better Than the Service: Two friends and I visited the restaurant after hearing of it from a co-worker. We heard that the food was quite good and it was. I had no complaints about the food at all but the service was terrible. We had to ask twice for our drinks to be refilled and the boy who served us kept apologizing and claiming he was busy even though he was disappearing and reapperaing smelling of cigarette smoke several times which made it difficult to eat our meal after smelling that.

I will say that our food was one of the best meals we have had in a long time without having to drive downtown and I will say that the variety of drinks offered was excellent. It is just unfortunate that our waiter was so bad.

Local makes you a Local: I don't know how I was lucky enough to discover this place, but I'm glad I did. As a long-time Birmingham resident, I think I have eaten just about everywhere and, frankly, have gotten tired of most of it. Most of the food that is amazing can only be a "special occasion" restaurant because of price.

Local offers food for every tastebud (food, drinks and desserts). I have gotten something different everytime and never been disappointed. Even better - they change the menu regularly so that I never get bored with the food. They have food at various price ranges (with the same outstanding quality throughout) so that I can go no matter what my budget is at the time. I can also invite friends knowing that they can also find something to enjoy no matter their taste or budget.

Though the food may be gourmet, the atmosphere is subdued. They have white table cloths, but I don't feel like I have to come in evening attire to fit in. They also have a great outdoor area that often has live local bands.

I promise you that you need to give this place at least one chance because if you do, you won't be able to wait to go back!
