I loved this place from the minute I pulled in. The evening began with complimentary valet parking. As I walked in the front door I was captivated by the unique interior of the old kiln building...awesome, romantic and quaint. The table we had was very private although a bit small. We were there for my birthday, (which was stated at the time of the reservation), and when we arrived at our table there was a birthday card signed by the entire staff. When the waitress arrived at our table, she too wished me a happy birthday by my first name. I was impressed by the personal attention to detail. The food was FABULOUS from begining to end. I will definately be going back as soon as I can.
Cave dwellers delight!: First off, the ambiance in this place is amazing. As there was a 20 minute wait, we decided to eat at the bar. Smart choice. Not only was Nick the bartender adorable and attentive, he was informative as well. He recommended a great red to accompany our meal, as well as a wonderful spicy broth to use for our entree. We ordered the vegetarian plate and the filet mignon, after trying the mushroom salad. Order this only if you REALLY like mushrooms. We didn't try a cheese plate, which was smart, as the salad and entrees filled us up ALOT more than expected. We ended our meal with a Keoke coffee, we had no room left for dessert :(. A cute little girl kept us entertained while she brought each family member over one by one, looking for the 'troll' she insisted lived in one of the tunnels (hallways). Expect your meal to take an average of 2~3 hours, from start to finish. No need for a jacket, this place is cozy enough and when it's busy and there's many pots brewing, it gets steamy and sultry. Whoo hoo. Cheers! :)
Disappointing: Good grief, what a let down... went there last night with my fiance for Valentine's Day - first time there, first time at a fondue restaurant. Initial impressions upon entering the place were pretty positive... very unique and ecclectic feel - but soon the uniqueness of the brick kiln oven-hallways began to feel more like catacombs. I don't have enough space to report the whole experience... so I'll simply say this: there is a total lack of ventilation & air circulation in this place. Couple that with all the steamy emissions coming from every table's fondue pot and holy cow - you can barely breathe. It felt like a dank, humid greenhouse. The food was lackluster - SO not worth the hefty prices. All servers make a canned (and annoying) corporate presentation (sales-heavy). And to add insult to injury, your clothes will absolutely REEK afterward from the constant brothy steam that dominates the air. We both had head/stomach aches at the end of the night.
