People who are buying a puppy usually know not to buy from a pet store, but they don't realize that that is what Gail's is. It doesn't look like a pet store - the pups are housed in huge wooden pens and look happy, very clean and well taken care of. That is what is so deceptive. The fact of the matter is that unless you visit the place where your dog's parents are, you are never sure whether you are buying from a puppy mill. And of course the staff at Gail's will never admit that they buy from puppy mills. Honestly, would you expect them to come out and tell you the truth? The truth is that a responsible breeder will never sell their puppies to a store. They want to know exactly who their puppies go home to. A friend of mine bought a large breed pup at Gail's. It turns out he has severe hip dysplasia. When they called Gail to tell her, she told them she would contact the breeder. They didn't hear from her for over a week. When they called her again, she told them she actually hadn't contacted the breeder yet. She was expecting a call from him at the end of the week regarding some other business and would bring it up then. She told them she hadn't wanted to call him before then because then he would know something was up and she was worried he wouldn't take her phone calls. This is the type of breeder Gail's is buying from. If you want a purebreed, please buy from a reputable breeder - one who breeds only one type of dog, who raises them in her home with her family, who lets you visit her and meet the puppies' parents, who does all the necessary health testing on the parents of the puppies BEFORE she breeds them. It will cost more than a puppy at Gail's but you won't be supporting irresponsible breeders and puppy mills. If you plan on buying one of the designer breeds, which are basically 'mutts' with a fancy name, just go look on petfinder - you will find hundreds there to pick from.
Got two wonderful "kids" from Gail's. My wife bought Milo, beagle/Cavalier mix, as a birthday present for me in 2006, then we purchased Chewy (lives up to his name), mix cocker spaniel/Cavalier, in November 2008.
Just got a border collie-sheltie. In beautiful condition. We are so happy with her. She is very smart, lovable, enjoyable, and a great addition to our family. We thank gails pups-n-stuff so very much for being so generous and considerate . My wife and I couldnt be happier waking up every morning to our new puppy. THANK YOU .
