I wanted to keep the business local, but sometimes you cannot. In December, my wife had 2 different 10 shot doses of progesterone (P-17) shots compounded by Harrisburg Hometown Pharmacy go completely bad with in one week of each other. If you know this shot, a pregnant wife cannot miss a shot or the baby is on its way even at 25 weeks. From Harrisburg Hometown we called and got a run around that no one in today (a Tuesday) and most likely someone will be in tomorrow or the next day.
We had to rush to an accredited and clean room pharmacy in Charlotte (Stanley Apothecary) in emergency and they made same day. With my wife’s and new babies health at stake, I was not waiting for a third strike from Harrisburg Hometown.
After researching, they are not even accredited as a compounding pharmacy. I am sure they can count pills and are fine with standard medicines, but be weary for compounds. Use a PCAB (www.pcab.info) accredited pharmacy for special compounded medicine.
Its hard to blame a OB/GYN office that has dozens of doses stocked for patients and the only one that went bad twice in a row was from this pharmacy. I also wanted to keep the business local but we received rude comments when we called for immediate help. As you know, you cannot miss a dose and all the clerk stated that pharmacist may be in tomorrow and there is nothing they could do. This would have put my wife 3 days overdue for her shot... Please.
I am very happy your experiences turned out well and I am sure we are a rare case, but our experience is what it is.
I am extremely amazed at the rude and slanderous comment above. I had this exact medication made at this pharmacy and I had NO PROBLEMS!! I now have a beautiful baby girl thanks to Harrisburg's Hometown Pharmacy. I know for a fact that 2 of the pharmacists are certified thru a compounding school in Texas along with 2 technicians. I did my homework before ever going here. The staff is great and I couldn't have been more pleased with this pharmacy!!! By the way, I went to the above website and only saw 4 accredited pharmacies listed for this area and from doing my homework previously, there are tons of successful compounding pharmacies in this area that are not accredited!!! I was told by the pharmacist that if this medication was not stored at proper temperature that it could crystalize. Sounds to me like somebody is blaming the pharmacy for their neglegance!!!
Highly recommend this pharmacy. THese girls really care about you and your family. After my doctor recommended using them, I was totally impressed. Now I have my entire family using them. Their prices are very, very reasonable but more importantly you get the kind of attention to detail that is so important when it comes to prescriptions. Oh and by the way, they deliver for free! (Excellent for the elderly or severly sick)
