I love Crystal Thai. I save it for special occasions because it is a bit more expensive than other restaurants in town. I am not a regular thai food eater but the owner is ready to help you find something you like and explain the menu to you. She is really nice and educates you on the customs of her home country.
My husband and I were VERY excited to try Thai food in the Southeast, but were completely let down by Crystal Thai. We lived on the West coast for quite some time, and ate some of the most delicious and inexpensive Thai cuisine in the US, so our tastebuds were ready for a treat when we arrived.
The atmosphere of Crystal Thai was cozy, but lacked ambience and proper tablecovers. The appetizers were 5 star, but the jasmine tea which was brought to me was in teabag form.
The entree (Pad See Ew) tasted more like Hamburger Helper mixed with cheap Ramen noodle seasoning than any form of Thai cuisine. We couldn't even finish the dish because it was so terrible.
We had really high hopes for this little restaurant, but I just cannot recommend it. :(
The food is good but I only rated 4 stars because it is a bit pricey for what you get. However it is not too terribly pricey and I would recommend you go to Crystal Thai if you want something different. I orderd Thai tea and it was delicious! The tea looked like normal tea with a smokey white liquid swirling around in it. That may not sound too good but it was and I am glad I tried it. I had curry and it was also pretty good. What is really cool about this restaurant is that they give you a large white piece of paper as a table cloth and crayons and encourage you to draw whatever you want as you are waiting on your food. I would like to go back when I have extra money.
