Great atmosphere and fine food; service just fine for us. In the league of Arnie Morton's--which is very good company indeed. We will definitely go back when we visit the Bay Area next time.
We went here for the first time last night. We had walked past it a couple times while dining at other places in the past and put it on our "list to try sometime". So it was dine about SF and I thought - hell a great inexpensive way to try a new place. WOW! We are native and this place is now a new fave!!!
I had the ceasar salad, veal marsala and tiramisu - all for $31.95! The veal alone was priced out at $28. I was thinking - I will get a tasting menu. NO WAY - it was so much food and I am a big eater (for a girl!) Everything I ordered was amazing: delicious, presented well - left me wanting to go back. My boyfriend ordered the bone in rib-eye and a starter of polenta con funghi - everything was spot on. We were amazed at the quality, quantity and how it was all very well orchestrated.
Service was impeccable. We were not rushed and our server was great, atttentive but not intrusive.
I absolutely would go back. One note - the portions are LARGE - and even though you order a steak - it comes with veggies (lots) and potatoes (lots) and it is a huge steak - it is enough for two with a heavy starter (like the polenta) and a salad. We could have made it on two starters and one entree with one dessert and been just fine.
We brought our own wine - but their wine list was very well thought out and reasonable choices existed. Also we found out if you have a party - and you bring your own wine (as long as they don't serve it too) they will only charge corkage on the first bottle and the next is free. I bet if you brought extra bottles and gave them a couple it would be free.
What a great place - we will be back!
We had dinner last Saturday, December 15th at Joe Dimaggio's for our anniversary. Our server was great, until it got busier. Our reservation was for 5:30 and we didn't get done until about 7:30 p.m.. The food was great and ambiance! There is one thing that I would like to point out regarding the manager ON DUTY that night! I was having my cup of coffee and as I got to the bottom of my cup, I noticed a chunk of pasty brown stuff on the side (inside) of my cup! I brought it to the attention of the manager and also my server and they all just said, I can bring you another cup of coffee! I didn't make a fuss anymore, but I find it rather odd that a restaurant with this caliber, would not even offer anything to appease a customer. I am not looking for a free meal (I make six figures!) and can afford to eat anywhere, but this manager, should be more cultured and have more professionalism! His demeanor is inappropriate and completely disappointing! And mind you, they even charged me for the coffee with whatever stuff that was in my cup that I drank!
