Very displeased.
I was there and the mashed potatoes were instant as mentioned, and my 1/2 price coupon which I purchased was rejected!
Hi,
I purchased two $25.00 gift certificates for $28.50 a few months back, of which expire on 8/8/2009, and printed on the gift certificate for the Balkan's Family Restaurant at 7640 West Forest Home Ave., Greenfield, WI 53220.
When I attempted to use the gift certificate, the waitress indicated that they made a mistake with the expiration date and do not accept them, I was displeased because I purchased two, and the expiration date was over 1.5 months away. She indicated they were "from the radio station, and was not accepting them, and waiting for the expiration date, so they would not have more problems". Where I felt this was just an excuse.
The guidlines of the gift certificate where met, which includes dine in, or to be used for gratuity, as well as being well within the expiration date.
I had heard that this restaurant was very good so we went there for dinner.
I was disappointed.... The mashed potatoes were instant and the food was very bland. The bread was homemade and very very good, though.
I thought it was a bit overpriced for the portion sizes, too.
And as a side note, the restaurant is very small and people were smoking at the bar.....there was no true non-smoking section.
The waitresses/owners were very nice and hospitable.....
WONDERFUL!: We went there on a whim after EVERY restaurant in the greater Greenfield area told us we'd wait over an hour to eat! So we went to Balkan's, were seated immediately, brought drinks and the waitress proceeded to treat us like family. When we said we didn't know what to order, she responded "I love that!" and proceeded to explain some of her favorites! Everything was freshly made, the bread with a variety of spreads was HOT and homemade! They seemed thrilled that we were there. Food was INCREDIBLE! They only had one dessert, lemon cake and it was one of the BEST I've ever eaten - WOW! Prices are incredible, too! Anywhere from $6-15 with generous portions. No ripoff soda prices here, either. Have fussy kids? No problem, there's "regular" food on the back. I'd encourage you to stop by often and try something new. I am sure "Rachel Ray" would approve!
