Went to the museum as part of the Seattle City pass. I went with my 2 kids (age 1 and 4)and other family members. The music and science fiction part was fine, good for people who remember or enjoy the movies and music. I was more interested in seeing the Jim Henson section since I had my kids with me.
Needless to say, I was disappointed. It had a few characters behind the glass, in which my 4 year old thought the characters were dead and that we were in some sort of cartoon cemetary. They had a small puppet stage area that the adults could pretend they were the muppet characters and put on a show. (kids weren't allowed to do it) The stage area was small so most kids couldn't see anything anyways. You can take pictures some places and can't in others. I guess I had inadvertantly flashed some of the glass cases as I was trying to take a picture of my 1 year old and was reprimanded very harshly. "This is illegal! You can only take a picture in the stage area!" The stage area can only hold maybe 6 people. The rest of the crowd ( a good at least 15-20 people) had to stand around it. The museum has a ton of "security" people walking around glaring at you so the whole experience was uncomfortable.
The city pass included the Pacific Science Center which by far was much better for kids! (same general area) I would not recommend the Music Project/Science Fiction museum for families with children under 10.
I literally traveled two states for the Jimi Hendrix: An Evolution of Sound exhibit over Memorial Day weekend; to see a specific guitar(s) that was broken after his Saville Theater performance in 1968. The $15 price of admission seemed high but it did get you in to the Sci-Fi Museum too. After being sternly reprimanded for snapping a picture of said guitar, I retreated to the interactive exhibits which were great fun for "kids" young & old. However, I found myself wanting more overall. My advice, visit during the all-access Thursday nights & drink in the EXPERIENCE MUSIC PROJECT, for FREE!
EMP: awsome.. i enjoyed the exhibits but the hands on stuff was the best. i learned how to play louie louie and smells like teen spirit on the guitar. i also go to record my own song
