THIS PLACE LIKES TO PROFILE PEOPLE ON HOW THEY LOOK
A True Grocery Store and More: The Hy-Vee on Locust Street in Dubuque is one of the newest stores in the employee owned chain. Features include a Starbucks Coffee shop, Dupaco Credit Union and it's own restaurant. There is also a convenience store adjacent to the grocery for those quick "must haves" and gas (bring your same day receipt from the store to the gas station and get anywhere from 3 - 10 cents off per gallon of gas).
While the store is always bright, clean and well stocked with just about every imaginable item on your grocery list, the deli has a few drawbacks.
We recently had the desire for an 'eat out night' and since the salad bar is huge (and the wife's desire for Chinese food and my dislike of it) we headed there. Every item from the salad bar was terriffic and tasty, but the mac 'n cheese and fried chicken from the kitchen/deli had long expired their shelf life. Mac and Cheese were like rubber and the chicken was so dry, I thought I was eating the Arizona dirt. While it was close to closing time for the restaurant, there is no excuse for serving food past it's hold time.
