I live on the UWS and frequent this crowded little place whenever I can get in. They have over 40 wines by the glass and over 200 by the bottle from all over the world including France, Italy, New Zealand, S. Africa, Austria, Australia, Germany, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Israel, and even Japan. The bartenders are pleasant and it is easy to see that the customers are enjoying themselves as the place is always packed until well past 1am every night. The price of the white wines by the glass range evenly from $11 to $16 a glass, and the red wines by from $11 to $18. The wines are poured into large delicate wine glasses that add to the pleasure. The staff has told me that it is the policy of Wine and Roses to pour a generous 6 full ounce serving instead of the industry standard of only 5 ounces. The wines by the bottle range in price from $28 to $850 assuring that everybody in the neighborhood can enjoy this 2007 and 2008 Wine Spectator Magazine Award Winner for "having one of the best restaurant wine menus in the world."
According to Wine Spectator Magazine, award winner Wine & Roses has "one of the best wine lists in the world." Excellent food menu features cheese plates, pasta, panninis, salads etc. This is probably the hippest wine bar in the city. Certainly my favorite.
Wine selection in general is good and so is the cheese platter. Unfortunately our over priced champagne was served old and stale. When we requested a fresh glass we were treated with much indignance and served less than what they were serving other people. If the attitude disappeared I'd recommend this place. Until then, I'll be going else where and recommend that you do also!
