I can't tell you all how heart-breaking it is to see poor experiences at my restaurant, especially when I cannot speak to those with whom I am not sure there has been a problem - thus why I am responding here. I dearly encourage anyone who has a poor experience to let me know by email, phone, or in person. Here at Ava's, we strive to provide old fashioned food with great service. We do actually make all of our food from scratch - the Chicken Wild Rice, alfredo, sausage gravy, mashed potatoes and much more. The chicken we use is all natural, the beef we use is choice, we do not cut corners on food quality as I believe it is important to use as natural of ingredients as possible. We are not here to be on the cutting edge of food innovations but to provide classics made well. - like meatloaf. As my restaurant is not perfect, I will continue to work with my staff especially in regards to the service - to strive for excellence. They and I have had to work hard in this economy and mistakes have been made. I do not take my patrons for granted, especially in our smaller town. I would appreciate any opportunity to make a past experience better, but I do not apologize for this beautiful restaurant. (P.S. They are Cheddar Cheese Curds directly from Ellsworth, WI. I am embarrassed that you did not receive your appetizer. I do not eat my food at the "bar," and my apologies if I was having a hard time comforting my child. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve so many and look forward to another year!
I seriously waited a month before writing this review. We were seated by a playpen for the owners(we assume) baby. Needless to say said child bawled entire time we were there. Ordered pot roast(we thought). We were served the Worst piece of meat known to mankind. It was Awful. Words cannot describe what it tasted like or looked like. Could not eat it. Waitress(owner we assume, because she was having her own lunch at the "bar" along with reading the paper that was spread over entire surface.) noticed we hadn't eaten but said nothing. As did we. We said nothing and we will Not be back. Ever. Sorry to have bothered you with our entrance. Will agree with last reviewer..."the lack of mid level competition has allowed the standards to hit rock bottom without consequence."
Lack of competition in area shows in standards. No words can explain the lack of professionalism, management, service, and culinary skills. Our service went as such: Arrive and are given a booth, five minutes until a server arrives for drink and app. orders. We ask what kind of cheese is in the curds and rather then going and asking, the waitress says she is not sure and guesses; we ordered another app instead (remember that). We get our drinks (3 soft drinks) but are only given two straws. We gave our order. Ten minutes later (still haven't received our onion ring app.) we find out that the steak that they advertised on the special board was out of stock. We were forced to choose something else from the lackluster menu. We then received our food while never receiving our appetizer! When the food was delivered with fries as a side, no ketchup, mustard, etc were brought. The food was mediocre at best, lacked seasoning and was slightly cold. We never received refills on our drinks either. Just terrible. As stated at the beginning, the lack of mid level competition has allowed the standards to hit rock bottom without consequence.
