Last night i went back again toTata's.. but this time with my mom, aunt and uncle. It couldn't be better than the first time. OMG!!! it was awesome. The food was Sabrosa. We had Mofongo withShirmp, Mofongo with Chicken, Mogongo with sea food salad and Rice, Bean and churrasco, That my uncle said this is the best Churrasco i ever had it was made with Personality. My mother loved her food and my auntie gave them 5 stars. We met the oweners and they are beutiful people and told us the story about Tata's. Can't forget the flan with coco. This is our new spot in Wallingford make it yours too.
This was the worst meal I have ever had in my entire life!!! (I never thought I would ever say this, I love food & are willing to try anything!!) First of all, the bread that surrounded my fish sandwich was moldy (not in just one spot . . . but all over!!) The chicken was rubber . . . just as if it were micro-waved, and the fries looked and tasted like they had come from an industrial bag of food. The staff was friendly . . . but the food horrible. I am sickened that we had to spend our had earned money on such a horrible meal. Don't eat here!! If you work here, please try eating the food yourself . . . what a waist of money!!!!!!!!!!!!
As I write this review this evening I am going back and forth between my plate of leftovers and the keyboard. Today my mother (who happens to be Puerto Rican and a chef) and I went to Tata's Restaurant in Wallingford, Connecticut. Tata's came highly recommended by my Aunt and her co-workers who's place of business is about 2 miles away.
"Latin food in Wallingford? For real? Where have I been for the past three years?" (That's how long they've been open for.) Well, let me tell you this food is ON POINT! Half of the restaurant is casual and the other half (an expansion) is more stylized for dining in. So no matter how your feeling if you want to dash in grab a to-go and hit the road, or if you want to bring a date, bring your girls, bring the fellas, *shoot* bring yourself and a newspaper. You have got to try this place.
My Mom had the pork shoulder aka Pernil for my Puerto Ricans, with white rice, and a side of beans that were great. I had the Shrimp Mafungo with a garlic sauce so good it made me believe in miracles again. When the waitress, who was very friendly, put the plate in front of me I could only stare for a moment. The presentation was well done, and the aroma was...I just knew it was going to taste great.
Everything you need to know about a chef is in their sauces. This Mafungo garlic sauce had layers Honey! This wasn't the Goya sauce I grab from the international isle at the grocery store OK. This was the real deal, made from scratch; it had the right color, texture, and flavor. I hadn't realized I was eating with my eyes closed until I looked up to complement the chef only to see him smiling from behind the counter. Pointing at my plate I said, "THIS is reaaally good." And my mother- who had conceded upon her first bite that their Pernil was better than hers-relayed with a smile, "God bless your hands Chef!"
God bless indeed.
I'll never drive out to Hartford again for the sole purpose of a Latin meal. Tata's has won me over. Hope to see you there.
