7/17/09 *****excellent
The Cakery has 2 new fans. My friend and I had won gift certificates(from Woonsocket oldies shows that we listen to) and decided today was a good day to redeem them. We are not from Woonsocket but found it with no problem (also great that there's a parking lot across the steet). It is definitely very popular with the locals who know all the staff and were very friendly telling us about their favorites and all the other goodies available. We tried a piece of vegetable quiche which we thought was excellent-it being so light and fluffy (if we weren't going shopping after we would have definitely taken some home-we'll plan on doing it next trip). We had sandwiches - corned beef reuben and turkey with blue cheese on focaccia bread and enjoyed every bite. I bought a couple of fruit squares to go and have to say they were absolutely delicious-the crust was so light it melted in your mouth. This is definitely going to be one of our new lunch venues before heading across the city to our other shopping locations.
I love The Cakery! Sarah did our wedding cake and it was fantastic! She's willing to do odd designs, too. For my husband's 30th birthday I requested a cake with a Cthulhu dressed as a Viking with thirty D20's (that's a twenty sided die). My husband loved his Geektacular cake!
It's nice to have a local place where you can go in and relax, read a book, knit, what-have-you while enjoying a coffee and delicious pastry. We like going for lunch, too. Great bistro menu.
The Cakery, itâs my version of Cheers! A warm greeting when you walk in, great food and the pastry and deserts are to die for! Sara and her Mom, Michelle with help from sister(s) Deanna and Janelle create from scratch such charming servings of food as (that your own Mother wished she could prepare!) Traditional French Meat Pie, soups like Cream of Cauliflower and Lasagna Soup, omelets spilling over with ingredients so fresh that you want to slap them, and I have to mention the Meatloaf Sandwiches from heaven!
Of course the desserts are even better than the entrees! My wife has allergies (wheat, sugar and dairy products) and Sara makes a Chocolate Cake with a Peanut Butter frosting for her that sends her swooning! The offerings presented in the glass fronted counter can send even the pickiest pastry professional into a green-eyed fit of envy. Ãclairs, cookies, and brownies, turnovers, Neapolitans and Biscotti, all great, and all made fresh on the premises.
I guess you can tell that I like it there! Nice people, nice food and a nice atmosphere. Sometimes it gets busy, which is not to be unexpected with such good eats. Just be patient, itâs the price well worth paying for fresh, made to order foods, and well worth it.
I give them two thumbs up and five stars!
