This is hands down the best sushi in Petaluma and possible the best in Sonoma County. I love the ambiance, food, and friendly staff. The Owner Steve Tam was an amazing person with a great dream and I was so sad to hear about his recent sudden passing. He will be greatly missed. As for the food I don't know where to begin because it is all so amazing. My favorite rolls are the yellow submarine, napoleon dynamite, and the Chef Steve roll. They have fresh fish, perfect edamame, and yummy gyoza. If you are a fan of Hiro's or disgusting kabuki's you are missing out on real sushi.
Finally I found good sushi restaurant in Petaluma area!! I wanted to go there since they opened, but I couldn't see the inside I was afraid to go in there. ( You can barely see inside of the restaurant) Place is really seek and modern. Server and Buss Person are really nice, and the food is really good. Especially fish quality is really good. I ordered Sushi Obento Lunch $15 and my husband ordered Combo Obento Box with Chicken Teriyaki $10. Price is really good and they make you full! Only thing I didn't like was their Nigiri and Rolls are too big (Too much Shari (sushi rice)) I would like to go for dinner next time.
Nice decor. Very Good sushi, usually. I really enjoyed this place for the first few months it was open. I'm sure they'll get their footing again. But lately, I tend to feel a bit hustled here - the owner lavishes attention on return customers - but it seems disingenuous at times - a little desperate. Prices seem high now for the quality/quantity/presentation (the presentation has declined). Servers often seem not to know much about the food or drinks, the sushi chef can be temperamental - he seems overworked & exhausted at times - other times charming. I think he knows his craft - but he needs more down time - at home with his sweet pup. Gohan is conveniently located just off the 101 in the Pier one/Kohl's shopping Center. I hope they get back on track. it is the best sushi in the area.
