Burgundy closed it's doors in early December 2009. Once again, Denton failed to support a real restaurant for adults not interested in the buck-a-beer sports bars for the college crowd.
I can't believe a restaurant this good is hidden away in Denton. We heard there was a new chef and new waitstaff so we drove up from Dallas for an evening and were blown away. I had the Lamb and my wife had the seafood chippino and both are world class. Burgundy's food, service, ambiance, and drinks are as good as Abacus, Mercury Grill, York St, and Nana. We are told they change the specials weekly, so we're going back every chance we get. I read a couple of bad reviews, and I'm not sure where they were eating, but it definitely wasn't this Burgundy restaurant.
I normally wouldn't write a review but I feel like I would doing patrons an injustice if I didn't warn them about this restaurant. We went Valentine's night and first off it took 30 min. to get our drinks, next there was a set menu (they charges $75 pp) and by 8:30 they had run out of two of the items. Our appetizer arrived and it was one tiny crab cake, the salad (more like a garnish) was mixed greens like you get out of the bag. Since they didn't have any potatos, we got rice (like Uncle Ben's 90 second microwave rice). It was so bad it hurts to re-live the encounter. Every item we received took at least 20 min. to get. The whole miserable ordeal took 3 long hours. We would have walked out, but we're just not the type to cause a scene or make anyone look bad. I am embarrassed that we took to time to get all dressed up for a special occassion to have such a poor experience.
