I won't be going there again.
I was treated for high blood pressure and what was almost a yearly flare-up of gout in one or the other of my feet. I was somewhat disappointed with my visits as they were just swift exams and two prescriptions. I was also given a list of foods that "I should avoid" and told to ice my affected foot.
After dealing with many flare-ups, I recently opted to visit another doctor.
She was shocked at the medications I had been prescribed. The high blood pressure medication Evergreen had continued to prescribe was counter-indicated for cases of gout. In fact, the drug can CAUSE flare-ups! She also was surprised that I was told to ice affected areas, since gout is the one form of arthritis that should be treated with HEAT.
The new doctor took the time to discuss options and we have a new plan in place. A new anti-inflammatory med brought me relief in just a day, and the new blood-pressure med is working well. She said that with the new treatment I may never experience another flare-up. But even if I do, she armed with with an emergency med to use when I feel one coming on that will probably stop it within a few hours.
All the severe pain I endured for years could have been reduced or even eliminated if I had received different treatment.
I know medicine is not an exact science, and doctors cannot know everything that is possible to know. But when a patient returns with repeating symptoms and conditions, it makes sense to carefully examine all facets of the situation and rethink a course of action and treatment.
