About:A James Beard award winner prepares your food here; Douglas Rodriguez creates some Latin culinary wonders that you sure wouldn't want to miss. Start out with the ceviche sampler or tacos for appetizers and then go on to the main course. Although the food has received mixed reviews, it's the drinks which keep the guests coming in. De La Costa mainly attracts the chic and trendy crowds because it's "the place" to be. The ambiance is quite appealing and has quite a unique finish. Groove to the beats, as the DJ spins out the latest and popular tracks, but get ready to shell out a bomb when the bill arrives.
Hours:Lunch: Mon-Fri. Dinner: seven days.Open late: Friday & Saturday till 11.

Overhyped and TRENDY. I was born in South America...have traveled all over South Am, Central Am, Caribb. for many years. Food here is not impressive. For good ceviche, try FRONTERA GRILL. For good "NUEVO LATINO" appetizers/tapas....go to CARNIVALE (best ropa vieja and empanadas I have ever had in the u.s.). DelaC examples: "empanada" is okay(it is actually a colombian corn "arepa" with squash n cranberry/olive-oil...but beware,NOT an empanada). Lobster & chicken w/ coconut milk is boring....has a plaintain wrapped in bacon (no, not a good result...creative? maybe...taste? not exciting). Ceviche: bland....not very interesting. .boring. ..pricey due to the sushi grade fish. Pork: watch out....no inventive sauce.. .better off going to a cheap cuban restaurant.. .nothing "NUEVO"/fusion about DelaC's pork recipes (one dish had pork...with a side of "more pork"...can u say "overkill"?). Desserts: save ur time and calories...desperate stereotypical "latin" attempt at making everything "fruity". Very disappointed after waiting for hype to cool down for ease of reservations. Also disappointed given priciness and pretentiousness. Waitstaff is rushed...and a bit aloof, borderline rude. Trendy crowd of "patrons" is enough to repel. HINT: you see Latin people galore at CARNIVALE...and at FRONTERA you feel like an invited guest into a cozy home....quite the opposite at DelaC.

    Good Cook - 05/11/08
Fully agree. It micro quality and quantity with a macro price. We were six of us and the bill was over $340. The music was so loud that one could not converse and the table was drafty. Food was bland. We would never return. There are far better restaurants in Chicago.
