Waldo's Coffee Company

I stopped at Waldo's a month or so ago and found they had done some very nice work on a building which had once housed a dry cleaners. The beverage was good, they have free WIFI, and an outlet was located near a table so I could do my computer work.

I thought I had found a new home, but after a while the quiet music began to sift through the detritus of my brain and I couldn't help but notice it was soft Christian rock, exactly the sort I skip through quickly on the radio dial when I'm not listening to MPR or Shuffle Function on KMSU. Hmmm.

While I don't wish anything bad to the owners of Waldo's or any other coffee place (there are not nearly enough of them around, and hey, I'm an entrepreneur too!), I have to wonder why this kind of music. Either they are targeting the clientele they already have, or they are looking for converts. Either way, I think they are restricting their market unneccesarily. Plus, I always take umbrage whenever someone tries to sell me on their own particular brand of religion, especially when they try to do it under the radar.

On the other hand, it may simply be the case that whoever was working that day just likes Christian rock and they had the Christian rock muzak channel on. In which case, I just spent a lot of my time writing and your time reading for nothing at all, really.

I haven't been back, though, so maybe that means something.

On the other hand, they did have some fabulous-looking baked items, and one customer who had a sandwich said it was her fave, and implied she was there often for lunch. Clearly, someone likes the food!

Give it a shot. And I'll give it another.
