I love Kabuki...: It's fairly new in the East bay, in comparison to some, like Okawa's and Kiku's, but it will clearly be staying a long time.
I am new to the sushi scene and would only eat in Berkely, as that was the only place I had tried it before. One night, I was at work and starving ( I worked at Sizzler's at the time), and another Waitress recommended Kabuki to me , as it was right across the parking lot. It was great! I was hooked from the beginning,
The owners are there all the time, you can tell this place is their baby. They cook themselves~ The Gyoza~Wow! The sushi is always fresh and beautiful. If there is ever a problem, which no one that I can think of has had, you can be sure that the owners will make up for it, in Spades! They are always willing to take time out and tell you about something new. The prices are some of the lowest I've seen, especially for the nigiri.
MMMM I'm hungry even thinking about it.
Probably not the best place for a romantic date, though. =) One large room, lots of yelling and rambunctiouness as the owners yell out greetings to every person who walks in the door, to make them feel welcome. And most of the time has Mariah Carey playing on the stereo. Even with that, it's the best. And nine times out of ten, you get free edame, miso and salad, and a gift card for free gyoza on your return visit.
