Two stars instead of zero. Because, I have not attended their classes (and probably won't) and am only rating this business based on my first ever contact with them, which was a phone call. Then again, apples don't fall far or something like that.
At least put "while supplies last" in the ad. Oh, wait, you can't. You are not really selling a tangible item, so you really won't run out of it will you.
IT'S A MEMMBERSHIP FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE.
You advertise it, but you don't offer it? Isn't there a law against this somewhere in the books? I think it's called false something or other...
I spent a good chunk of the day researching Yatch Clubs around the SF Bay. Specifically, I wanted to find out which club offers the most reasonable rates for both classes and rentals.
I was not interested in the little perks like the afternoon sale and the weekly full moon special and the cheap T-shirt (do people actually think the longer their list of membership “advantages” are the more likely they’ll make that sale?) Who knows, I say, where’s the beef?
It was a challenging task, the smart ones twist and turn what they offer and the average ones don't, or are incapable of giving you enough information for making an informed decision. Or, maybe it's the other way around. Who knows, the end result is that you can not make an apple to apple type of a comparison. So, I decided to do exactly that, turn'em into the heavenly fruit and compare.
First I figured out who is calling which class what and what combination of classes get me to my goal (and get me certified to sail, although I feel I will soon be certified if I don't find the answer, or give up). Then I added class prices for members, and for non-members. Next, I compared the boats all these outfits rent and spent some more time to figure out where the best deal is hiding. Moving right along, I added the initiation fee (or that fee, which has different names but its job is to separate your money from your pocket) to monthly fees, figured out the member and non-member cost of classes (again), added the cost of renting a boat at regular price to the non member costs and compared the member cost, added to everything else AND threw all the numbers in the kitchen sink. Shook, stirred and added water. Finally, out came SPINNAKER SAILING OF SF. Yes, I identified the winner. So, I called these guys and asked about their Master's Membership. To my amazement, the lady on the end of the line said that they don't offer that membership any more! Yes, they actually do not want to take $2900 from me (or you, I hope)! Think about it, It's not like they are physically giving me something, they refused money for adding me to the classes they already hold and renting me the boats they already rent. HELLLOOOO, it's almost Fall, take the money. I am so baffled that I want to hear what I heard from the rather young lady with a sweet voice from the horse's mouth (the owner). So far, it seems I identified the loser.
I took basic lessons from these guys and loved it. I ended up joining their club. Much better than owning a boat. Instructors were patient and great sailors. They're near the Giants ballpark so mass transit is easy. I drive there all the time now because parking is pretty easy in that area.
I recommend them.
