This was my first time at Matilda's and the LAST.
I had gotten a salad that had a quarter sized beetle in it. The beetle was crawling around in the dressing and the waiter of course didn't bill me anything but none the less that is disgusting and i would NOT recommend this place at all.
This happened on Saturday June 27, 2009 also.
My husband and I took our two children to Matilda's for lunch today and had a very good experience. My husband and my burgers were both cooked perfectly to our orders. Mine was one of the best burgers I have had in years. And let's talk about the fries...a-MAZE-ing!
The children's menu had a good variety, but was a bit high priced as far as children's menus go at around $5-6, not including a drink.
The only down point was the dessert. We ordered the cobbler and it was almost sent back. The bread was dry, the fruit was from a can and the ice cream was iced over.
Will we go there again? Most definately, but we will be unlikely to order dessert again.
Don't do brunch: We went for Easter brunch in 2005 and it was bland and service was poor. Yes, they were busy, but the prices were so high that the quality should have been better.
Previously we went for dinner and had the kangaroo. I've had excellent kangaroo several times in Australia, but this was tough and overpowered by the sauce. No one in our party has had good food.

You went on EASTER!!! HELLO! It doesn't matter where you go, if you are stupid enough to eat out on Easter there will be some problems. Maybe you are like a 1/4 of the losers in this country that have no loved ones to dine with on a holiday. Either way, try the restraunt on a REGULAR day before you cast your almighty judgment. Also, the prices were high because it was Easter...just like any other F@#$ing Restraunt in America you stupid wench.
If you want good food, even better brew, and the best all around good time in Newark...then you WILL find yourself in the only true "Down Under" experience in Delaware. Matilda's! So good I named my dog after it!
