My husband and I are very pleased with doctor Chapdelaine so far. We were referred to him by my family. At first it took some getting used to his bedside manner, but he has been very helpful and direct about the next steps to take for our health. His receptionist is very kind and explains everything clearly as well. My husband and I both found out we were misdiagnosed on a few health issues after our blood work and we only had vitamin deficiency instead. Every time I call and leave a message, the receptionist is prompt to call back and offer advice per Dr. Chadelaine. He never asks us to come in unless needed (which saves money) and is flexible with our payment schedule. He is very thorough and wants to make sure we are being treated well and not do any unnecessary treatments.Thank-you!
WOW! I'm fascinated by all the reviews so far.
I work in the healthcare industry and in the mental health field. Dr. Chapdelaine does indeed have Aspberger's Syndrome. He is textbook. If you decide to go to him, read up on Aspberger's first. It will explain a lot.
What you get: Brilliance (as is true with many Aspies, he is gifted in his area of discipline and passionate about getting it right). Ease (it's easy to get an appointment, you aren't waiting for hours in the waiting room after you arrive, and they actually know your name). Attention (I've had doctors give me less than 5 minutes of their time and wonder why I'm annoyed, especially after waiting for an hour or two. Dr. Chapdelaine will typically, though not always, spend time with you as long as the questions you are asking are relevant.)
What you don't get: It's possible that you won't get eye contact, a warm fuzzy, or humor, although I've received all 3 more than once. These things are difficult to impossible for individuals with Aspberger's. If you NEED them, go elsewhere. But remember, that's about you, not him. He's being authentic. What's your problem?
I adore him. I feel that I'm getting excellent care and information. I'm delighted to have found him and, with a little understanding, I think the whole experience of working together with him--and it does feel like collaboration--is totally rewarding. Wouldn't go anywhere else.
I have been to Dr. Chapdelaine twice. I wasn't quite sure what to make of him during my first visit, but the second visit clinched it for me. When I asked him about which vitamins to take, he got very angry at me! In my job, I am accustomed to dealing with rude people on a daily basis and letting it roll off my shoulders. But Dr. Chapdelaine had me nearly in tears! (And I'm not much of a crier!) Every time I asked him a question about my lab results, his only answer was that his receptionist would explain on my way out. He is clearly not open to answering questions. Sorry, but it's my health, and I want to understand what's going on in my body and what my options are for treatment. Oh - and watch out if the receptionist offers to file an insurance claim for you. They don't tell you this up front, but they charge an $8 filing fee which comes out of your reimbursement. If I had known, I would have filed the insurance claim myself. I am disappointed that there are no other alternative doctors in our area.
