Not a pleasant experience. The coffee was awful. Don't know if it was the water , the coffee beans or the "so called" barista who did not have a clue as to what she was doing. Staff attempted to be pleasant but came across as just being annoyed. On anothe occasion, I had a sandwich that was overpriced and just plain "ordinary." My recommendation is to avoid the place. You are better off going to the Tides Inn or even McDonald's!

My experience was not very good. The service was rather slow and it appeared the staff was rather disorganized and inexperienced and could not understand the type of espresso drink I ordered. My espresso drink tasted burnt and I think it is because they burnt the milk they steamed for my latte. I would put this coffee shop at the bottom of my list of coffee shops to visit in eastern VA. Someone at the shop told me that the shop was under new ownership... They certainly have alot of work to improve this shop.

My first impression of the local was that of a relaxed, enjoyable and fun place to eat. That first impression was only confirmed when I ordered my Taylor Special and my latte. My friend and I sat down and engaged in conversation. A short while later, my latte came to me and I found that it was very near exactly the way I like it which is something you don't get in too many establishments these days. The girls behind the counter were working very hard taking care of a huge number of orders but they were still very cheerful and made a few intelligent and well-timed jokes here and there. All of this combined made the wait more enjoyable and gave our meal the feeling of a laid-back, pleasurable lunch. When we got our food, I was impressed by two things. The first was how good the food itself tasted. I was definitely not expecting the quality of preparation that was delivered. In addition, the young man who delivered it was extremely polite and saw to it that we had everything we needed despite the obviously hectic conditions. My friend and I finished our lunch over a nice conversation and our table was cleared and we were sent off with a smile and a wave. My overall take on the Local is this: The food and drink is excellent and the staff is polite and organized. What really stands out, however, is the very personal feel of it. The interaction between customer and staff is lively and stimulating and it Is one of the major reasons I will definitely come back in the future.
