Soul Mountain Cafe

They left the doors open during a rain shower, which led to a plethora of fruit flies swarming around the tables. AND it was a hot, steaming summer day, so it was pretty miserable inside. It took quite a long time to get our meals, and they were less than amazing when they finally came. On top of it all, the tables are crowded and the prices for the so-so meals are overpriced. Not impressed.

OUTSTANDING IS THE ONLY WORD THAT FITS, the menu items are varied enough for any taste, the portions are large, and the food itself was great and reasonably priced. Well worth the money and the drive. Bar prices were a little pricey but the drinks were good.
Talked with the owner/chef, interesting guy and he loves his work. Of the 4 places in town we ate at this was the best by far, this guy should be in the city, Front Royal is lucky to have him.

After ordering and watching two tables order, eat, pay and go, all we could get for waiting 60 minutes for our meals was "sorry" after "sorry." Now that is fine, and alone can be easily brushed aside but this just snowballed, but ask about compensation or taking something off "we can't do that." After discussing that issue and hearing it was a lost ticket in the kitchen "sorry" was all we were going to get, though things got testy when they said they opened at twelve and doubted it was an hour wait (mind you my watch now read 1:20 and we had just gotten our food ten minutes ago). So we got free ice teas. I asked who the owner was and if I could speak to them, relatively politely then, and they pointed the person out right next to me, and of course the owner completely ignored me. Now that is customer service and really put the coup d'grace on this whole bizzare experience. Food rated at best "ok" for the price but if something goes wrong, caveat emptor. *Oh AND they were out of one thing and said would replace with coleslaw, and then they were out of cole slaw when the plate came, maybe there was extra fries? who knows by that point.
