| About: | Located within the Gilley's Dallas complex, the Palladium Ballroom is a recent addition to the entertainment scene of downtown Dallas. A large space that can accommodate around 2600 guests, the Ballroom has been a venue for several concerts by touring bands and artistes. Upstairs from the Ballroom, one can find The Loft . The size of the Ballroom makes it ideal for dance parties, corporate cocktail parties or dinners. The Ballroom is a non-smoking venue but an outdoor patio has been provided for smoking. Space can be rented for private events. |

Very disappointed in the "Battle of the Bands/Next Big Thing" scheduled for 2 nights and the winner was chosen before all the bands could even perform. Just because Barry Manilow sells more tickets does not mean he's a better musician than say...Alicia Keys. C'mon, it was very disrespectful for the bands left to play and the one I came to see sold 50 tickets & had the biggest crowd on the last day! I think it was all just a ploy to get people in your club that would never have been there otherwise on a Sunday evening. The Loft was nice but I'm so put off by your unprofessionalism & lack of respect for the musicians, I won't be back. These kids were more courteous than your adult staff!
First time at your venue last evening to see Glen Hansard. Unfortunately I will probably never return. The lack of respect and ignorance for the musicians from the EVENT STAFF was simply horrible. The loud transfer of glass beer bottles being poured from garbage bin to trash removal during the concert should NEVER happen. Surely you can get away with this at a honkey tonk.
It's a shame that an Academy Award winning musician was treated this way here in Dallas. I was embarrassed.
I had one decent experience 6 months ago, but last Tuesday pretty much wiped that out. Some things we had experience both times, but I put up with. This time I couldn't. Here's why:
Parking and ticket fees are a complete rip off (I don't blame that 100% on them--it's the industry and culture--but they are definitely complicit.)
Security was rude and meathead-threatening. We just wanted to sit until the main act was on. Apparently everywhere we tried to do so, like by the bathroom, was not cool by security and we were threatened into standing. Not just a "please stand up" but a "stand up right now or I'll kick you out, hipster scum" (admitted liberal paraphrasing, but that was the tone).
The bar regularly over charges credit cards. After hearing a few horror stories from friends, I thought it was just a fluke. Then it happened to us. The bank statement showed a 20% charge over what thought we'd been charged.
We couldn't be trusted with a bottle of water (they had to pour them into cups like we were children).
They scan your ID and put your name on the armband. Nothing too obviously wrong with that, but it's a little Big Brother. I hate that I'm logged into a system like that.
All in all, it's going to take a huge artist that I've been waiting all my life to see to get me back there.
