El Canelo Restaurant

We're incredibly lucky to have an authentic Mexican restaurant in Oneida of all places! My first experience with "real" Mexican food was in California, and El Canelo serves up the same kind of great food that I experienced out there. It's nice having another option instead of all the usual fast food and chain restaurants.

The menu is almost overwhelming with the vast number of selections, although many of them are simply different combinations of the same dishes. Service is usually extremely quick, although I have been in when it has been crowded and the service was hit or miss. Don't go in with high expectations, and you won't be disappointed is my philosophy. You can tell all the staff work very hard, and that's enough for me.

You automatically receive a bowl of tortilla chips and fresh Mexican-style salsa to munch on while you wait. Once you order, the food usually arrives extremely quickly - I joke that it comes before you order! The ingredients have always seemed fresh and very tasty. If Taco Bell or Chili's is your idea of Mexican, you may be in for a surprise, but I prefer the real stuff much better.

This is a wonderful place to eat out if you're on a budget - you can eat very well for about the price of going out for a pizza. I believe they do take-out as well. I hope this restaurant is here to stay!
