I had a pleasant experience with AAMCO in Camp Hill (with the new owner). Firstly let me say that I was wary of dealing with AAMCO/COTTMAN. I had read several reports of their failure to keep warranties and other problems.
I dealt almost exclusively with Shawn the new owner. He is very personable and NO PRESSURE. He gave frank opinions and did not sugar coat things. I had received quotes elsewhere and I let him know this and he said that he would help if he could. I left the vehicle with him for a day and he came back with a very competitive price. The repairs were done quickly and the car was returned.
3 weeks later I had tranny problems. I took it back and Shawn said that he would take care of it. It turns out that there was an unrelated electrical problem that wasn't covered by the original warranty. Without missing a beat Shawn told us that he would repair it for us at no charge. I was delighted.
Repairing a transmission is something that nobody likes to pay for. There are many people out there who are huxsters trying to 'sell' you on a repair. In this instance, the new owner of AAMCO is an ethical and up-front guy and I will give him my future business.
One word of warning though. AAMCO in general seems to have a 'timeshare' 'vacuum cleaner' 'used car dealer' salesmanship associated with it. Shawn is not like this, but the AAMCO across town is! High pressure and just a weird experience. They did not get my business. I also had the mis-fortune of talking to the area trainer 'Dominic' and I can see why other franchise owners are like this. Dominic was insistent that I needed to come into the shop and examine the torn-apart tranny. WHY? Who cares! Just give me a price and fix it. Don't try and sell it to me! If I'm getting brakes or an oil change, nobody would tell me to come check it out so why do I need to do it for a tranny? They are the experts - not ME!
