I went to the Belmont because it was close to my hotel and I really wanted some barbeque. When I got there the menu on the wall said 4 ribs with one side for $10 or six ribs with one side for $14.00 I asked the lady behind the counter whether 4 ribs made a good meal. She said yes, but that she preferred the 6 rib meal. I asked her what side she would recommend and she said the cheesy potatoes. I also asked what the best sauce was and she said the NC sauce. So that is what I ordered: 6 ribs with cheesy potatoes and NC sauce to go. I should have been concerned when, after she yelled into the kitchen for the order, I heard a "bing" several minutes later, like the sound a microwave makes. The cook put the ribs, wrapped in aluminum on the counter and the lady bagged them for me. The wrapped ribs looked kind of small, but I assume they were wrapped tightly in the aluminum. She then charged me $16.80 and did not give me the receipt, but threw it in the trash. I asked her why it was so much more than $14 and she said the 9% Virginia tax. Well, I am pretty good at math and know that 9% of $14 is $1.26, but I was in a hurry and hungry and wanted to get back to my hotel, so I just paid it and left. When I got back to my hotel and unwrapped the ribs I realized that had been put in a cardboard bowl and the aluminum had been puffed up around the bowl. I looked at the ribs I realized that they were burnt and that I had been given 6 ribs from the tip end of the ribs. They went from 5 inches long to 2 inches long. Despite this, I tried to eat them because I was hungry. I took out the NC sauce, which was in one of those little plastic cups, only to find out that it was just red colored water with a little vinegar in it. I poured the NC sauce on the ribs, but only the one 5" long one was partially edible. The rest were dry and had been cooked onto the bone like jerky. I threw them in the trash. I then tried to eat the cheesy potatoes, but they were burnt also. I was able to eat around the burnt areas and those parts were pretty good. As I write this review my stomach is not feeling right. If you don't believe this review, please feel free to go there. They you can write your own review, which I am sure will confirm that you were too foolish to believe this one. The only person I would recommend the Belmont Bar B Que to would be my worst enemy and even then I would feel really bad and probably call them back and stop them from going there.
The sauce was too sweet -- meat was OK. Not the cheapest, and not the best. (I prefer Jinx's.)
The best BBQ in CVA by far. Wes does it right. Have a slop bucket or a pulled pork sandwhich.. Great sauce. If you havent been there go and you'll not want to go to another bbq place ever agin but Belmont BBQ!
