The kid likes this place, probably because of the sweet, tasty but often dried out zucchini bread that is put on the table. Food is average, and not always 100% fresh. Prices are higher than average and are not justified by the overall quality of the food and often careless presentation. Altadena has much better, fresher and more reasonably priced honest-to-god breakfasts and lunches available at Fox's, and much greater value for decent food at Everest, both just a bit south of Amy's on Lake.
This is honestly our favorite place to eat in Altadena. It helps that breakfast is my favorite meal to eat out, because they have many great choices for breakfast, including gourmet omelets and a terrific breakfast burrito. Also, the potatoes you get with every breakfast are delicious. It might seem kind of pricey compared with other local eateries, but when you compare the atmosphere and the fact that you get a complimentary loaf of zucchini bread, it's competitive with anything in the Pasadena area. I love a place where I have too many appealing choices, and their kid's meals are good too. They get my vote for serving real food, rather than something that tastes like it was made from a box.
What an awful place! The owner and wait staff are rude, stressed out and nasty. I ordered coffee when I came in. I waited twenty minutes and then I asked the owner for coffee. She glared at me and then plopped a cup down on the table. I ordered eggs benedict without the sauce. The nasty waitress brought it to me 25 minutes later with the sauce. When I pointed it out she swooped away the dish, went to the kitchen, came out 10 minutes later with the sauce wiped off with a rag. She said that she did not want to wait to have them cook it over. When I told the owner, she called me a liar! The fruit on the plates was cut three days ago and left in it arrangement in the fridge. The parsley they put on your plate is wilted and brown. After a meal here you will be craving airline food. It is an insult to Altadena. Better to stick with Fox's. Low brow, but you get what you expect with out the creepy owner and staff of Amy's!
