Great store they have great food friendly people and a great place to shop.
RANCID!! The hamburger I purchased tonight was rancid! I had to throw it out. This is not an isolated case with this Safeway. I have had so many negative experiences there, I can't even count!
2 weeks ago I purchased hamburger there and got a bacterial infection/food poisoning and returned it. The only reason I went back again tonight was because it is very close to my house.
Last week I went into the same Safeway on Francisco to purchase a deli sandwich. I waited for about 7 minutes for a counter person. As I waited, I noticed that the mayonaise was a putrid yellow-goldish color. When the clerk arrived I said "please don't use that mayonaise because it has turned". He said, "Okay, I'll use this one". He went over to another bay of bacteria looking mayo but it was the same yellow stuff, he dug into it to find a better color!!
As I stood there with my mouth open agape in dismay, he picked up a french roll with his hand and smelled it! At that point I told him I would pass, and went on my way to obtain overpriced staples......As I went for milk, I pulled down a Lucerne 1% gallon from the dairy case. I pulled it downward to grab it and milk dripped from the top. I grabbed two more and the same thing happend! As I was standing there, a young father and his boy were buying 2% milk. He commented to his boy that the date on the milk had expired. I looked at him and I said wryly "welcome to Safeway". I purchased the Crystal brand (A former family operation newly aquired from some conglomerate). It did not taste right when I got it home...disturbingly sweet and foreign?
Of course the prices are outrageous, $4.99 for a non-ripe tomoto?? $7 bucks for a small block of cheese? $.99 for a Snickers.....a small, sub-standard NY or Rib-Eye steak is $12?
In addition, it is not an enjoyable experience... to have to walk by solicitor's at the front door and then get "hit up" by the "weird" checkers on the way out for a donation to a non-descript "non-profit" makes me feel uncomfortable. I choose when and to whom I donate my time or money, not my merchant!
Back to the weird checkers, Hey, I don't want them to even know my last name let alone announce it to the backed up, frustrated line of customers....I don't want to hear a comment regarding what I'm purchasing....don't want to donate in that manner and don't need "help out" for one or two bags of OVERPRICED & SPOILED crap!!!!!!!!
This is really the tip of the iceberg.......there's alot more where this came from. You will find it.
I hope others post their experiecnes about this store. Maybe we can run them out and get a smaller version of a Nugget or something...Corti Bros. anyone? We do not deserve this type of operation...this is the same group that runs my SF Giants....Loosers!
The prices on some of the items are MORE expensive than Folsom safeway. One example, 1lb of Banas @ EDH safeway = 0.67 whereas Folsom Safeway = 0.39 cents. There are much more examples. I guess they cater to the yuppie EDH folks and their rent must be higher.

well honestly it seems like goldfish has a stick up their prejudice a**. you obviously came in with a chip on your shoulder and went out of your way to look for things that really aren't problems, ie: $0.99 Snickers? you're going to gripe about that and how the standard price of a chocolate bar reflects bad business? Living in El Dorado Hills I'm sure you are accustomed to Raley's and entered the Safeway with an already negative mindset. If you do not wish to have people know your last name, i suggest you cancel all your credit cards and destroy your check books, because with both methods of payment, you directly give your name to someone. try and pull your head out of your a**, take your horrible and grouchy business elsewhere, so you can complain where people actually care
